Kiyan Foroughi elevates self-discovery with Substantial & Rachelle Ruby in "The Destination"

Singapore-based producer and multi-linguist Kiyan Foroughi is back with a deeply reflective rich track, "The Destination," which features the lyrical prowess of Substantial and the emotive storytelling Rachelle Ruby.

Stanley Robinson, one of this album's most ubiquitous collaborators show us what to do with conscious rap over three intricately woven verses. Each set of a dozen or so lines traces a micro landscape through which the seer must navigate. The song maintains a lyrical arc that starts in uncertainty and self-discovery, but finds that the journey leads to the realisation that the person you’ve been seeking guidance from, yourself, is familiar.

Rachelle Ruby plays both the role of character and guiding voice through the track, providing warmth and authenticity to this narrative. Through her embodiment of the narrative, "The Destination" is where an audience bears witness to our main character coming to know that the goal was never outside themselves, and all they needed to do was remember they are whole.

Foroughi’s production dresses these performances appealingly, balancing all this layered instrumentation with clear, open space that allows every lyric and detail to hit. The track is an experience in which the listener acts as both observer and participant. "The Destination" is a self-actualization meditation wrapped around some incisive work in the beats department and solid vocal performances, something that gets stuck in your head long after it’s over.
