Naomi Neva Draws Blood and Finds Power on “This Is Over” — A Breakup Anthem Born 30,000 Feet in the Air

Oakland indie rocker Naomi Neva returns with “This Is Over,” a blistering, unfiltered breakup anthem that turns emotional disarray into electrifying catharsis. Landing on all streaming platforms on November 7, the track arrives as both a confession and a battle cry crafted mid-flight, sharpened in the studio, and delivered with Naomi’s trademark blend of grit, wit, and vulnerability.

Written somewhere over the Atlantic, “This Is Over” begins in a painfully relatable setting: Naomi is caught between two strangers passing snacks while she tries to process an unanswered message from someone she deeply cares about.

Instead of spiraling, she started writing, and what poured out was raw, confrontational, and startlingly honest. That awkward moment in the middle seat became the spark for one of her most emotionally potent releases yet.

Created by an all-female team at Hear Me Roar Studio, the track features distorted guitars, explosive percussion, and Naomi’s powerful vocals. Each element captures the tension between heartbreak and liberation.

There’s an almost punk-rock edge to the delivery, complemented by melodic undertones reminiscent of early Ani DiFranco. The sound is fierce and unrefined in the best way, anchored by a chorus that feels like ripping off a bandage: it’s painful, necessary, and ultimately freeing.

Lyrically, Naomi doesn’t hold back. Her lines land like blunt truths hurled in the mirror, direct, cutting, and darkly humorous. “The song is about realizing you’re not going to get what you want from someone, and that it’s time to stop pretending,” she says. Then, with the self-awareness that makes her writing so compelling, she admits, “It’s also a lie I’m still friends with both of the people who inspired it, and that is still a mistake.”

“This Is Over” isn’t just a breakup song; it’s a reclamation.

Naomi Neva turns disappointment into fire, vulnerability into power, and emotional turbulence into the kind of indie-rock release that sticks with you long after the final chord fades.
