Future Clouds and Radar returns with new EP "Big Weather"

Austin-based songwriter and producer Robert Harrison, the creative force behind Future Clouds and Radar, makes a triumphant return with his new seven-song EP, "Big Weather," released via Star Apple Kingdom. Known for fronting Cotton Mather and its cult classic 1998 album Kontiki, Harrison continues to explore his signature blend of inventive pop, textured production, and lyrical curiosity, proving that time away from the spotlight can spark renewed artistry.

"Big Weather" was recorded in Austin with Frenchie Smith and Lars Göransson. It features longtime collaborators Darin Murphy and Jon Sanchez along with singer Betty Soo. The result is a record that feels both intimate and expansive, where fuzzed-out guitars collide with sharp hooks and poetic storytelling. Some songs, like "The Hype" and "Brass Tacks," show this balance by having parts that are both explosive and reflective. Other songs, like "Cabbagetown" and "Going to Meet the Big Man," show how Harrison plays with melody and arrangement in a fun but deliberate way.

The spirit of pushing boundaries is still there on "Big Weather," along with a sense of warmth and spontaneity that comes from making music with friends in real rooms, mistakes and all. The EP sounds like Beck, Wilco, and Guided by Voices, but Harrison's voice as a songwriter and producer is still very clear.

Released on Harrison’s own Star Apple Kingdom and distributed by MonoStereo/The Orchard, "Big Weather" reintroduces Future Clouds and Radar as a vital creative force, chasing discovery, connection, and the thrill of sound itself. It’s a record that feels alive, immediate, and impossibly human, proof that Harrison’s adventurous spirit is far from spent.
