Lou Gold - Stained Glass
Sheffield, UK - March 22, 2024. Lou Gold, the burgeoning singer-songwriter hailing from London and now based in Sheffield, announces the release of her second single, Stained Glass. Lou’s debut single garnered early praise from BBC Introducing's Christian Carlisle as a "brilliant track," setting the stage for Lou's upcoming EP, Somewhere Between Magic and Historical Materialism, slated for release this autumn. In September 2023, Lou took some time away from her day job in sustainability to
record her songs, written at home in Hunters Bar. She worked closely with musicians and producers, Adam Bowers and Robin G Breeze, at Bower’s boathouse: a small, light-filled studio on the River Orwell in Suffolk. Together they developed the EP, influenced by genres including folk, soul, and rock’n’roll, building on the original songs she had written on guitar to create a bigger, vintage soul sound for the final record. Somewhere Between Magic and Historical Materialism is Lou’s first solo material, born from a life enriched by global exploration, education, activism, spirituality and dedicated work in sustainability. Somewhere Between Magic and Historical Materialism, will be released in 2024.
Stained Glass was the first song Lou Gold wrote for her forthcoming solo EP. Lou wrote it shortly after a holiday in Cornwall, via Wales and Devon, where she saw rainbows in waterfalls, painterly sunsets, the sea stretched out on its canvas, and pastel waves scribbled over shale. Stained Glass is a song of languorous summer days. Through the lyrics, Lou tries to capture the reasons she makes music and art. If you like Frazey Ford, Brittany Howard, Lianne La Havas, and Valerie June you will enjoy Lou’s thoughtful lyrics, honeyed tones, and vintage soul sounds. Stained Glass is now available for streaming and download.
